William Keep Cross was born on March 14, 1924, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Genevieve Elizabeth May, age 33, and Douglass Livingstone Serles Cross, age 35. He had three sisters, Julie, Genevieve and Gladys. In Rye his family lived at 19 Walnut Street, Rye, NY.
William was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942. In High school he was a terrific athlete lettering in Football, Baseball, Basketball and Track and he was known as "Big Jones".
He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Service Number 32724430. William served from 1943-Nov 21, 1945 as an Armorer SGT in the 380th Bomb Group.
The group saw action in the Air Offensive Japan, Bismarck-Archipelago, Luzon, Northern Solomons, Ryukus, Southern Philippines and Western Pacific
William's awards and decorations included the: American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War 2 Victory medal, Honorable Discharge Army 23rd of April 1948
William was a World War II Army veteran and served in France during the Korean.
After his discharge, he owned Customer Business Machines and Services, New York, for more than 20 years. William married Patricia Parra in 1964 in New York City. He lived in Rye, N.Y., before moving to Ocean Grove, NJ.
William K Cross, 71, of Ocean Grove, died Tuesday July 18, 1995 at home in Manhattan.
He was survived by two daughters, Catherine 'M. Smith, Ocean Grove, and Betsy Cross, New York; three sisters, Jule Allen, Clearwater, Fla., Genevieve Mellaci, Neptune, and Gladys
