William A. ''Bert'' Groglio
William A. Groglio was born May 14, 1927, to Gerald and Mary Grosso Groglio of Rye, NY. His sibvlings were brothers, Gerald, Nick, Joeseph ,George and John and sister Angela . In Rye his family lived at 34 Elizabeth St. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. William was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1945. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He served in World War II in occupied Germany.
Bert attended Westchester Community College and the American Institute of Baking. An avid athlete, he was captain and quarterback of Rye High School's Championship football team from 1942-1945. He was one of the most outstanding fast-pitch softball pitchers in the area for almost 20 years and crowned his career defeating Eddie ''King'' Feigner in an exhibition game. He was also an excellent bowler and avid golfer.
He was employed at Arnold Bakers of Greenwich, CT, for 53 years in various positions, culminating in his being appointed Vice President. Most recently, he was a worldwide consultant to the baking industry. He was also a partner with his son William Jr. in a bakery in Southington, CT.
Mr. William A. ''Bert'' Groglio Sr., 76, a resident of Rye Brook, NY, passed away suddenly on May 21, 2003, in Southington, CT, while visiting his son.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Emily Giorgi Groglio; his son, William Jr. and his wife, Marianne of Southington, CT, and their children, Tiffany, Brandi and Chelsea; his son Dr. Gregory and his wife, Elaine of Pearl River, LA, and their children, Gregory, Sara, Gina, Daniel and Matthew; and his daughter, Shari Melillo of Port Chester, NY, and her children, Charlie and Nicky.
He was also survived by brothers, Gerald, Nick, George, John and sister, Angela Anderson. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Joseph.
