Whitney Hartshorne


Whitney Hartshorne was born on March 27, 1914, in New York, New York, to Leila Douglas Hartshorne, age 26, and Douglas R. Hartshorne, age 31.

In Rye his family lived on Dogwood Lane and were members of Christ's Church. Whitney was a graduate of Yale University.

He enlisted August 1, 1941 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. Whitney was promoted to major while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone with a mobile force. He received his honorable discharge on November 21, 1945.

After the war he spent many years as an advertising executive in California and New York

He died October 30, 1989 at Cabrini Hospital in New York City and was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
