Robert Maclay Peet


Robert Maclay Peet was born on August 31, 1914, in Rye, New York, to Meta Brevoort Potts, age 36, and William Creighton Peet, age 42. He had two brothers William and John and a twin sister Zelia.

In Rye his family lived at 290 Grace Church St and were members of Christ's Church. Robert graduated from Harvard College in 1936 and from Harvard Law School in 1939

He married Helene Marie Thomson in Wilton, CT, on October 11, 1941, when he was 27 years old. They would have three children during their marriage.

Robert served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
For three years he was an officer in the Reserve serving in the Mediterranean as an aide to Admiral Kent Hewitt.

After the war, Robert worked as a lawyer and he and his family resided in Wilton, CT.

His career took him to New York where he spent 39 years as an attorney for the New York New Haven and Hartford Penn Central and Conrail railroads

From 1978 until his retirement in 1987 Robert was a law partner in the New York firm of Conboy Hewitt O'Brian and Boardman. He was president and an executive committee member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel from 1955 until his retirement.

Robert moved to Hanover, NH in 1967 where he served on the board of Upper Valley Hostel and as a member or SCORE (Service Cops of Retired Executives)

He was an enthusiast of opera a tennis player and enjoyed mountain climbing with his children.

Robert Maclay Peet a retired railroad attorney and a founding member of the Institute for Lifelong Education at Dartmouth died Monday October 23,1995 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center following a long illness.

He was predeceased by his first wife Helene Thomson Peet in 1980. He was survived by his wife Florence Mleczko Peet of Hanover two daughters Helene Peet Foley of New York City and Janet Peet Kravetz of Wayland Mass and a son Robert Creighton Peet also of Wayland

Funeral services were held at St Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover
