Robert K. Wood

Robert K. Wood was born in Rye, New York June 27, 1921 to Charles and Lydia Wood. He had one sister Audrey and in Rye his family lived at 389 Rye Beach Ave.

Robert was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1938.


He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Robert served as officer and pilot.

In February 1944, he received the silver wings of a second lieutenant as a pilot in the Army Air Corps at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. He had completed his work as a B-26 Marauder bomber pilot.

The Martin B-26 Marauder is an American twin-engined medium bomber that saw extensive service during World War II. The B-26 was built at two locations: Baltimore, Maryland, and Omaha, Nebraska, by the Glenn L. Martin Company.
