Robert Dalmon Turner

Robert Dalmon Turner was born on February 29, 1916, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, his father, Roscoe, was 39 and his mother, Alvina, was 35.

He married married Marguerite Audley Jordan in Camden, North Carolina, on August 17, 1936, when he was 20 years old. In 1940 they lived at 1159 Norview Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. At the time Norfolk had a population of 144,332 and was the 2nd largest city in the state. At the age of 24, Robert D was the head of the household when married to Marguerite, age 28. They had 3 children ranging in age from 6 months to 8-years old.

The census worker recorded Robert D's occupation as an Electrician. In 1939, he earned $600 ($11,400 in today’s dollars) and worked 52 weeks of the year.

He then would marry Mary Martha Holloway on March 26, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia.

In Rye his family lived at 85 Old Post Road. Robert enlisted on October 21, 1943, when he was 27 years old and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He died on March 14, 1996, at the age of 80, and was buried in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia,.
