Richard C. Zollner


Richard C. Zollner and his twin brother Robert Stager were born on November 7, 1923, in La Grange, Illinois, their father, Louis, was 34, and their mother, Marie, was 32. He had an older brother Stan and a twin brother Robert. In Rye his family lived at 44 Allendale Drive and were members of Christ Church..

He spent his childhood in Rye, N.Y., and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.

He served three years with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He graduated from Yale University in 1947 and then attended Harvard Law School and graduated from New York University Law School in 1951.

Richard married Marjorie H. Biggs on Dec. 28, 1951 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They had two children during their marriage.

Richard was a partner in the law firm of Helman, Younge, Hockensmith and Zollner in Grand Junction from 1954 until his conversion to Jesus Christ in 1962.

He then attended Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL., and was ordained into the Episcopal Church in June 1965 in Littleton.

The Rev. Zollner served as assistant rector at St. Timothys Church in Littleton and in 1966 became assistant rector at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, Ariz.

In 1968 he founded Calvary Church of the Valley in Scottsdale, a non-denominational church. He was pastor there until 1988 when he retired to Grand Junction. He since had been actively involved in the Pregnancy Center, the Rescue Mission and New Horizons Foursquare Church.

The Rev. Zollner died Monday April 9, 1990, in Grand Junction, Colorado, in SL Mary's Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 66.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, a son, David Zollner of Grand Junction; a daughter, Margaret Ahern of Grand Junction; two brothers, F. Stanton of San Rafael, Calif., and his twin, Robert S. of Andover Mass.; a mother-in-law, Josephine Biggs of Grand Junction; and six grandchildren.

Richard C. Zollner is my father. He died April 9, 1990 in Grand Junction, CO where I reside. I will contact my mother for exact information on his war and post war info. Thanks for overseeing this site!
