BIOGRAPHY
Louis D. Lalla
When Louis D Lalla was born on May 8, 1917, in New York, his father, Bartolomeo, was 34 and his mother, Incoronata, was 25. He had four brothers, Joseph, Daniel, John and Michael. In Rye his family lived at
28 High Street
and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Louis was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1937.
He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the
135th Infantry Regiment
,
34 Infantry Division
and participated in the invasion of Africa. The 34th, under command of Major General Ryder, saw its first combat in French Algeria on 8 November 1942.
The 34th Infantry Division is an infantry division of the United States Army, part of the National Guard, that participated in World War I, World War II and multiple current conflicts. It was the first American division deployed to Europe in World War II, where it fought with great distinction in the Italian Campaign.
Louis later would marry Helen Langeloh in the early 1960's and for many years he worked at RB&W in Port Chester.
Louis D Lalla died on April 20, 1990, at the age of 72.
