BIOGRAPHY
Joseph A. Schmidt
Joseph A. Schmidt was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 25, 1923 to Henry Leon and Mary Kelley Schmidt. Joseph was an only child and attended Rye schools. In Rye his family lived on
169 Milton Rd.
and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
Joseph enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He married Jean Eleanor Tourgee in White Plains on April 21, 1949 and they would have two daughters and a son.
After the war, Joseph was a driver for Morgan Fuel Co. in Poughkeepsie for 16 years and retired in 1980.
He was a member of Fishkill United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge 1493 in Beacon.
Joseph A. Schmitt, 73, a 39 - year area resident, died Thursday November 14, 1996 at his home.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife and his two daughters, Mary Jo Strait of Underhill, VT, and Nancy Greer of Fishkill; a son, Joseph Schmitt of Hampton, VA and seven grandchildren.
