John L. Bramkamp

John Lewis Bramkamp was born on January 22, 1925, in Illinois to Ruth G. Griswold, age 25, and Lewis Breckenridge Bramkamp, age 24. In Rye his family lived at 22 Sussex Gardens. John attended Pawling Preparatory School.

He was studying at Cornell University as an ROTC student when he accepted a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. SEE MUSTER ROLLS

Rye Men Commissioned Ensigns
Three Rye men were commissioned ensigns in the United States Naval Reserve when they graduated recently from the Naval Reserve Midshipmens School at Abbott Hall, Northwestern University, Chicago, 111. The graduates, who will now be assigned to duty with the fleet as deck officers, are; William H. Todd, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Todd, Club Road; John L. Bramkamp, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J, K. Aimer, 22 Sussex Gardens; James Hedges, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hedge, Summit Avenue.

After the war, John received a Bachelor of Arts degrees at Cornell University's 79th commencement in 1946. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

John married Doris Aileen Dowacter on April 20, 1950, in Plymouth, Illinois. Both John and Doris happily spent their lives as teachers in Rock Island, IL.

John Lewis Bramkamp died on October 5, 2010, in Plymouth, Illinois, at the age of 85.
