John J. Burke


John J. Burke Jr. was born in Canada in 1908 to Anne E. Kerrigan and John J. Burke.
He had two sisters Mary and Margaret and in Rye his family lived at 21 Locust Lane.

John enlisted May, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received his basic training at Patterson Field, Ohio. John was with the Eleventh Air Force in Alaska in the Quartermaster section at an Air Base for 22 months.

In 1944, he graduated from the Curtis Technical Training School at Buffalo, N. Y. John received specialized training in repair maintenance of the C-46 (Commando) cargo airplane, and was qualified as a skilled technician on this type of aircraft. He reported on June 1, 1945 to an air base in Florida for re-assignment.

Alaska, March 24—John J. Burke Jr., 36, of Rye, on duty with the Eleventh Air Force in Alaska has been promoted from corporal to sergeant, according to a recent announcement here. Sergeant Burke is in the Quartermaster section at an Air Base has been in the Alaskan theater for twenty-two months. He received his basic training at Patterson Field, Ohio. He was inducted in May, 1942.
