BIOGRAPHY
John F. Murphy
John F. Murphy was born in Rye June 24,1910 the son of William and Mary O'Neill Murphy. He had two brothers
William
and Walter and two sisters Ann and Helen. John attended Rye public schools. In Rye his family lived at
131 Purchase Street
and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
John enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Before and after the war, John worked for the Westchester County Sheriffs Department. He retired as a criminal investigator in 1965.
For many years he was a volunteer member of the Milton Point Engine and Hose Company.
John F Murphy a former Rye Resident and a Westchester deputy sheriff died Saturday January 31, 1976 in Delmar, CA. He was 65.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife the former Dorothy DeLude, two listers Mrs. Ralph (Ann) Benjamin and of Rye and Mrs. Harry (Helen) Denton of Dover Plains NY two brothers William of Clearwater Fla and Walter of Yonkers and several nieces and nephews.
