John B. Strater
John B. Strater was born March 9, 1915, in Port Chester to Charles Helme and Alice Barnes Strater. He had two younger sisters Caroline and Margaret and an older brother Charles. In Rye his family lived at 200 Locust Avenue and were members of Christ's Church.
John attended Rye Country Day School, Choate Preparatory School, Princeton University and the Packard Business School. Before the war he was working for Chase National Bank.
John served as an officer in the Coast Artillery Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the war, he was a member of the brokerage firm Green, Ellis Anderson in New York City and for 13 years was manager and part owner of Weston Shopping Center in Weston, Conn.
He lived in Rye and on December 6, 1975, he married Jean Kirby. The couple moved to Rye Brook in 1986.
John was a member of the board of directors at the YMCA of Rye and a member of the Rye Nature Center. He took part in the University Glee Club in New' York City, and sang in Gilbert Sullivan productions with a Darien, acting company.
John B. a retired investment broker and former shopping center manager who lived in Rye Brook, died Sunday Dec. 29, at (Conn.) Hospital He was 81.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife at home; a brother, C. Helme Strater Jr. of South Pasadena, and a sister, Margaret S. Robinson of Weston. A sister, Caroline S. Martineau, died in September 1968.
