James W. OKeefe

James William O'Keefe was born on October 3, 1925, in Connecticut, his father, Peter, was 28 and his mother, Thelma, was 24 In Rye his family lived at 23 Purchase Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

James enlisted May 19, 1943 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a Navy Medic, Pharmacist Mate Third Class, assigned to a Marine Infantry Division. View Muster Rolls

He attended Hospital Corps School and Field Medical School. James was assigned to the 3rd Marine Regiment of the 3rd Marine Division.

In the United States Navy in World War II, hospital corpsmen assigned to Marine units made beach assaults with the marines in every battle in the Pacific.

The 3rd Marine regiment deployed to New Zealand on 23 May 1943, and were reassigned to the 3rd Marine Division at that time. The regiment fought at Bougainville and Guam.

James was honorably discharge on August 15, 1945 and was authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star. View Discharge Record



James married Prudence Ann Pennington, November 27,1949. They would have two sons and two daughters.

James William O'Keefe died on October 15, 1999, in Walden, New York, at the age of 74, and was buried in Newburgh, New York.
