James J. Shay


James Joseph "Jim" Shay was born on August 20, 1923, in Milford, Connecticut, to Rose Thompson, age 23, and James Joseph Shay, age 24. He had one brother John and in Rye his family lived at 46 Oakland Gardens. Jim was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942.


He enlisted March 26, 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was attached to the Military Police Battalion at the Fairfield - Suison Army Air Base in CA. He was honorably discharged February 22, 1946.

Jim married Dorothy Ann Howard in May 1954 in a ceremony in St. Thomas Apostle Church, Washington. D. C. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph M. Moran performed the marriage ceremony.

The couple would reside in Washington and they would have four children during their marriage.

Jim was graduated from Southeastern University School of Accounting, and later attended Georgetown University. He was employed as a research analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was later employed by the IRS.

James Joseph Shay, Age 84, passed away April 20, 2008 in Richardson, TX.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his sons, Kevin James and ex-wife Michelle, Patrick and wife Deneen, and daughter Kathleen Roffee and husband Barton. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon and seven grandchildren.

Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
