George W. Hagele

George W. Hagele was born April 17, 1913 in Rye, NY to Frederick and Catherine Norton Hagele. George's father was born in Germany and his mother was born in New York. George and his seven siblings were all born in New York. In Rye his family lived at 30 Elm Place. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. He was educated in Rye and graduated from Rye High School.

George enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Medical Corp. from which he received a medical discharge in June 1943. He was one of four Hagele brothers to serve in the war. (see links below)

He then worked in the inspection department of the R. B. & W Bolt and Nut Company. In February of 1944, he married Frances Sullivan at Sacred Heart Church in New York, NY. George later was employed for many years at Playland in Rye, NY.

George W. Hagele of Port Chester died on January 2, 2004 at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY. He was 90. At the time of his death he was survived by his brothers Thomas O.Hagele and William E. Hagele (Retired City of Rye Chief of Police), both of Rye, NY. Family members who died earlier include his wife Frances Sullivan Hagele, his two sisters Ella Baker and Loretta Watson, three brothers Frederick Hagele Jr., John Hagele and James Hagele.
