GEORGE L. LEE (See story on Page 1) WINDSOR George L. Lee, 51, died at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H., early Saturday morning. He was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Irving and Vivian (L'Heureux) Lee. He received his schooling in Rye, N.Y., and married the former Virginia Heskth on Nov. 20, 1954, in Burlington. They lived all their married life in Windsor, where Mr. Lee was employed at the State Prison since 1955. Mr. Lee was a veteran of, World War II. He leaves his widow, his father, Irving Lee of Mamaroneck. N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Wilcox of Denver, Colo., and Miss Kris Lee of Miami, Fla.; one son, Andrew of Windsor; one sister, Miss Jacqueline Lee of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and one grand child. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. His body will be cremated at the Mount Auburn Crematory in Cambridge, Mass.

GEORGE L. LEE

Correctional Officer George Lee was killed after being struck by an inmate as he was releasing the inmates for exercise at Windsor Prison. One of the inmates struck him, knocking him from a third-tier catwalk. He was transported to Mary Hitchcock Hospital where he succumbed to head injuries. The inmate was being held at the prison for an attempted rape charge in Chittenden County. He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison on April 19th, 1968. Officer Lee had served with the Vermont Department of Corrections for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
