BIOGRAPHY
George F Burns
George F Burns was born in New York on January 21, 1912 to George and Florence York Burns. He had one brother Charles and in Rye his family lived at
49 Meadow Place
.
George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1927 where he played banjo in the orchestra. Before the war he was manager of the Apawamis Club in Rye.
George enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed at
(APG) Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
, where he had completed his basic training and attended Officers' Training School.
At the peak of World War II, APG had billeting space for 2,348 officers and 24,189 enlisted personnel.
After the war, George continued in the management of Country Clubs. He would marry and eventually settle in Florida.
George F Burns died March 1, 1985 at the age of 72, in Vero Beach, FL.
