 George E. Feeney
George Edward Feeney was born on December 28, 1921, to Alice Margaret Rossall Feeney, age 25, and George E Feeney, age 27. He had a younger sister Alice and in Rye his family lived at 43 Rosemere St. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.
George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1941. Hew was verry active in high school as a member of the Drivers Club and Hunting Fishing Club. George was also an outstanding three sport athlete in Track, Football and Basketball. Before the war George was working at Russell, Birdsall and Ward in Port Chester, NY.
He enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed in Greenland.
The Greenland Patrol was a United States Coast Guard operation during World War II. The patrol was formed to support the U.S. Army building aerodrome facilities in Greenland for ferrying aircraft to the British Isles, and to defend Greenland with special attention to preventing German operations in the northeast.
Coast Guard cutters were assisted by aircraft and dog sled teams patrolling the Greenland coast for Axis military activities. The patrol escorted Allied shipping to and from Greenland, built navigation and communication facilities, and provided rescue and weather ship services in the area from 1941 through 1945.
George married Beverley Gladys Becker in Greenwich, Connecticut, on November 6, 1943, when he was 21 years old and they would have two children.
After the war George would graduate from the University of Rhode Island. He had a long career in retailing and marketing, retiring from B. Altman & Co., following positions with Van Munching & Co. and P. Ballantine & Sons.
George was a proud member of Rye American Legion Post #128, having served as a past Post Commander.
 George E. Feeney, 82 a long-standing resident of Rye, died November 24, 2004 in Port Chester. He was predeceased by his wife, Beverley.
At the time of his death he was survived by a son, Stephen; a daughter, Jessica Antico and nine grandchildren, all of Rye, and a sister, Alice Feeney Bock of Timonium, MD.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, December 4, 2004 at The Church of the Resurrection, Rye. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name were made to the Rye American Legion Post #128, P.O. Box 128, Rye, NY 10580 and gratefully appreciated.
