Eugene M. White was born to parents John J. and Mary White in New York on June 21, 1923. He lived at 270 Milton Road growing up in Rye with his parents and five older siblings, Alice, Mary, Edward, James, and Daniel. His father worked in construction.
Eugene was a graduate of Rye High School with the class of 1940. He was part of the Chess Club, Drivers Club, and Self Reliant Club. He was also manager on his Track team and Treasurer to his Home Room. He took part in multiple school theater productions, including “China Boy”, “Ivory Door”, “What a Life” and the Christmas Pageant.
After beginning college at Fordham University, Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army in June of 1942 with the Field Artillery. He served in the European theater in WWII as Staff Sergeant.
Mr White married Ann M Reilly on May 14th,1949. The couple raised their four children at 9 Sanford Street.
He was employed as Director of Operations of Public Works by the County of Westchester and was General Superintendent of Rye Playland. He retired in 1985.
Mr White was an active member of Resurrection Church, serving as council member and later head of the Resurrection Dads. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts in Rye.
At the time of his death, Eugene White was survived by his children, Michael White, Gregory White, Suzanne Conmy and Sharon Thorp, and their children, Michael and Christine White, Katherine and Ann Conmy, and Kelly and Kevin Thorp. He was also survived by his sister Alice Myrtle of Bethany Beach, DE.
Also survived by six grandchildren Michael and Christine White, Kelly and Kevin Thorp, and Katherine and Ann Conmy. Also survived by several nieces and nephews including Peter Glasheen of Thornwood, NY.
A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, NY and Interment was followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
