Edward W. Fitzsimmons

Edward W. Fitzsimmons was born on 3/2/1917 to Ella and Edward Fitzsimmons. Edward lived on 43 Locust Ave in the small town of Rye, New York with his parents, sisters Ella and Jean and his brother William. All Family members were born in New York and parishioners of The Church of the Resurrection.

Edward graduated Rye High School in the class of 1937. He was a messenger, played J.V. Football, and worked in the business club. In 1939 he was hired to work as an undertaker in a funeral home in Rye New York, working 52 weeks of the year, earning $1,040 ($19,760 in current day payment).

A few years after of graduation he enlisted in the U.S Army, and served for six years.

After his discharge he continued his job as an undertaker at the William H Graham Funeral Home in Rye. He would marry Eleanor Hogen on Dec 1 1950 and together they had a son, Robert.

In 1963 where he would takeover this business from his Aunt Honora Graham.

He was a member of the New York Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directions Association. Locally, Edward was a member of the Rye Volunteer Fire Department and the Lions Club.

Edward W. Fitzsimmons would pass away on 1/1/1978 suffering a heart attack while working at the funeral home.

He was survived by his wife, Eleanor, his two sisters, and his brother William.

He was predeceased by his son Robert Graham Fitzsimmons who died of leukemia while attending Duke University in February 1977.
