BIOGRAPHY
Edward P. McGuire
Edward P. McGuire was born on
3 Mar 1920
and lived on
51 Palisade Road
in the small town of Rye, New York. He lived with his father, John McGuire, his mother, Margaret and his little brother,
William
. The home that the McGuire family lived cost $8,500 ($161,500 in current day). Edwards Father originally came from Scotland, while his mother was born in the Irish Free State, while both Edward and his brother are both from New York.
Growing up in the town, he was a member of the Church of Resurrection and was graduated from Resurrection School and in 1937 from Rye High School. In high school Edward was the Associate Editor of the Hitching Post, a member of the Press Club and the Q.V Club. He was part of the “B” Squad in the schools basketball group and also played for the Rye High School football team.
Edward spent four year in the Navy during World War II seeing duty in Atlantic coastal waters, the Caribbean and South America. Following his discharge he was employed by the Navy in ferrying ships to New York for decommission.
After the war, he also continued his studies at Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, N. Y.
Tragically, Edward McGuire would die at the age of 28 on 6/28.1948, due to a swimming accident in Maryland. He had been vacationing with friend William Mueller formerly of Rye and apparently struck his head after diving into four feet of water.
At the time of his death he was survived by his sister, Margaret, his brother William and his parents.
