Arthur R. Colasanto was born July 2, 1925 in Rye, NY to the late Rocco and Angelina Demane Colasanto. . He had four sisters Carmella, Jennie, Sylvia and Edith and two brothers Pasquale and Daniel.
Arthur was raised and educated in Rye, graduating from Rye High School.In Rye his family lived at 15 High Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Arthur enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Arthur participated in two theaters, the Mediterranean and European, and received four Battle Stars, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal.
He served in North Africa and Italy with the 88th Infantry Division, 349th Infantry Regiment France and Germany as Company Clerk, Headquarters Company 7th Army. While serving with his regiment he was wounded in action at San Clemente, Italy.
After the war Arthur was married May 1, 1949 to Dorothy Rhyins at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. They would have three children.
Arthur was an original member and player of the ''Rye Laddies Baseball Team''.
He was the former President of the Westchester, Putnam Counties Building & Construction Council which comprised all union building trades unions. He was Executive Secretary, Treasurer, and Business Manager of Painters' District Council #20 of Westchester & Putnam Counties.
Arthur was also President of the New York State Conference of the Painters, Chairman of the Painters Fringe Benefit Funds, Chairman of the Board of Affirmative Action Program of Westchester, Commissioner of the Housing Implementations Commission of Westchester.
He was a member of the Labor Advisory Committee to County Executives Dell Bello & O'Rourke, Member of the Westchester Rent Guidelines Board, Vice-President of the 88th Infantry Division Association, Co-Chairman Westchester Joint Trade Board of Painters. He was a longtime member of the Canyon Club in Armonk, NY.
Arthur R. Colasanto, a resident of Rye Brook, died May 29, 2011. He was eighty-five.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Dorothy Colasanto, daughters Amy Manon and husband Leo, Beth Galasso and husband Rick and Mari Farant, grandchildren Stacey Shepard, Paul Shepard, Leo Manon, Joe Galasso, Danny Galasso, and Cassandra Palmieri, great-granddaughter Kaya Shepard, sisters Jennie Dianni and Sylvia Arlotta. He was predeceased by his siblings, Patrick Colasanto, Carmela Robinson, Daniel Colasanto, and Edythe Santoro.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 260 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester, NY. Interment followed in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY.
