Vito R. Calo, also known as Bubs, entered into eternal rest at the age of 84 with his family at his side at Stamford Hospital on Monday, July 30, 2018.
He was born on November 21, 1933 in Port Chester, New York to the late Jack and Jennie Nardozza Calo. He grew up in Rye, New York and moved to Stamford, Connecticut in 1960. He is survived by his wife Cleo (Fiordelisi) Calo of almost 58 years and their three sons, Richard Calo and his wife Mary, Joseph, and John Calo. Also surviving him are his five grandchildren, RJ, Tom, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Nicholas Calo. He is survived by his brother Nicholas Calo of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and sister Catherine Murray. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. He retired from the Department of Public Works for the City of Rye in 1998 after working there for over 39 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed tending to his beloved garden, closely following and cheering for the UConn Women's Basketball team and the New York Mets, and being an active member of St. Maurice Church. He loved to vacation in Cape Cod and listen to Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli tunes. Above all else, his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family especially his loving grandchildren. He could always be found attending one of his grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, or school activities.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 9:20 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford.
Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
