Thomas G. “The Prez” Nordmann, a Rye resident for over 55 years, passed away on April 2, 2020 at the age of 91. Born on February 21, 1929 in Mount Vernon, NY to Clarence and Dorothea Nordmann. He graduated Harrison High School class of 1947. Thomas served in the Army from 1951-1952 and fought in the Korean War.
Thomas worked for NY&NH&Hartford Railroad and later was the owner of the Rye Liquor Store where he was fondly known as “ the Prez”. He was an Ex Warden of Rye Fire Department and a Volunteer Firemen. Thomas served on the Board of Greenwood Union Cemetery and was a member of the Rye Lions Club. He was a man of minimal needs and loved woodworking and tending to his gardens. But most of all he loved to be around his family.
Thomas married the love of his life Mary on September 1, 1951 and was married for 64 years. His wife who passed away on March 13, 2015 predeceases him. He is survived by their 3 children: Thomas “TJ” Nordmann and his wife Hollie, Gail Nordmann, and David Nordmann and his wife Mary; and 7 grandchildren: Katie, Amber, Timothy, Emilie, Caroline, Connor, and Cassidy. His interment will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
In a note on social media this past Thursday, his son Dave Nordman (RHS Class of 1983) said in part “Last Wednesday my Father went into the Hospital and tested positive for Covid-19. He was doing well but took a turn for the worst on Tuesday. Last night he passed away at Greenwich Hospital under the care of Hospice. Due to the coronavirus we were not able to be with him as he passed and that was very hard to think he passed without anyone by his side… I want to thank all of the Doctors and Nurses and Vitas Hospice who took care of him over the last week. I want to let everyone know that because of the present state of our Country we will not have any wake or service. so all I ask from everyone is for 2 prayers.

Husband, Dad, Uncle, Grandfather, and friend to many we will miss and love you everyday.”
