Robert L. Chapderlane was born on March 12, 1930 in Rye, NY. In Rye he first lived at 82 Purchase Street before moving to 11 Grapal Street. In 1930, his father, the head of the household, was a gardener for a private estate as well as a verteran of WWI and later became a painter by 1940. His mother was a homemaker before taking up an occupation in washing by 1940. At the age of 10, Robert worked as a kennelmen to help support his family. Robert was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1948. During his years in high school he adopted the nickname "Chipper" and participated in many sports and activities including Glee Club, Band, Dance Band, Basketball, and Varsity Baseball. His high school classmates voted him for "Musician" and "Eager Beaver" in his yearbook's "Senior Poll". Robert served in the U.S Army- A Battery, 103 Field Artillery. He passed away on September 16, 1996.
