Robert Fetridge Jr

Robert Fetridge Jr was born 7 Mar 1927. Robert lived at 312 Mendota Avenue in Rye, New York. Rye was a small town with a population of 9,865. Robert's father rented this home for $135/month ($2,565 in today’s dollars). In 1940 at the age 13, Robert was a middle child. Robert's father was 37 and his mother was 27.Robert's father had a college education, while his mother had a high school education. Robert was in elementary school.

Robert's father was born in Massachusetts and his mother was born in Connecticut. Most of the children, including Robert were born in Pennsylvania. Robert's father's occupation was a newspaper editor, in the last week of March in 1940, he worked 80 hours. In 1939, he earned $5,000 ($95,000 in today’s dollars) and worked 52 weeks of the year.


Robert Jr. was a member of the Rye High School Class of 1945. He and 11 of his classmates opted for early graduation in November of 1944 to join the service. Robert enlisted and served in the US Army with the American Military Government in Germany.

After his discharge on October 18, 1946, Robert attended Wesley Junior College and Rutgers University.

He married Virginia Vera Rute on June 4, 1949, in Pelham, New York and they would have two sons and one daughter. At the time of his marriage he was attending Kent State University in Ohio. In 1950 the couple were living in Mt. Vernon NY. Robert spent many years in the publishing industry until his untimely death at age 47.


Robert Fetridge Jr. died in April 7, 1974 at the age of 47.
