Hunter, Jr., Robert E. DMD Jun. 2, 1926 - Oct. 6, 2013
Robert E. Hunter, Jr., DMD, 87, of Bradenton,passed Ad Astra on October 6. The only child of Robert E. Hunter, Sr. of Greenwich, CT and Rachel Ragsdale Hunter Smith of Greenwich, CT and Bessemer, AL. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jane Millard Hunter, son, Tripp Hunter and daughter, Hollie Millard Hunter, 2 granddaughters, Ellis Ratcliff Hunter, and Kira Millard Gardner. He was graduated from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA and The University of Alabama where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts, Science and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees.
He was drafted into the US Army and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for wounds received in action. He was Commissioned in the US Army Dental Corps advancing to the rank of Colonel. He practiced Dentistry in Rye, NY for 28 years, retiring to Vail Colorado for ten years and then to Bradenton.
In Bradenton he was the Founding President on the Palma Sola Botanical Park, President of the Manatee Players Board of Directors and Past Vice President of The American Hibiscus Society. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a Lifetime member of The American Legion Kirby Stewart Post 24.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton Tuesday, October 15 at 10am followed by Interment at Sarasota National Cemetery at 2pm. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to; Tidewell Hospice, The Manatee Players or The Palma Sola Botanical Park.
