Hugh R. Fitzpatrick

Hugh Richard Fitzpatrick was born in the Bronx on May 23, 1926, in New York to Lillian Rita Ashman, age 18, and Owen R Fitzpatrick, age 18. He had two brothers Owen and Kenneth. In Rye his family lived on Stuyvesant Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Hugh left Rye High School in his senior year and enlisted April 29, 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Hugh served on the USS Sturtevant (DE-239). It was an Edsall class destroyer escort in service with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and from 1951 to 1960. She was scrapped in 1973. (See Discharge Record for Hugh's Awards and Medals)




After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Rye High School graduating in the class of 1947.

He married Rosemary Langeloh in Rye, New York, on November 27, 1947, when he was 21 years old. They would have one child together and divorce in 1950.

He attended Champlain College in Plattsburg NY and would graduate from the University of Denver. In 1958 he then married Pauline Dawn Splan and they had two children together.

They resided on Stuyvesant Avenue in Rye before moving to Texas in the mid 1960's.

Hugh worked as an Electrical estimator for general contractors.

Hugh Richard Fitzpatrick died Thursday December 1, 1972 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas Texas where he was a patient for a few days.


At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Pauiline Pawn Splan, two sons James Richard Fitzpatrick of Stratford CT and Timothy Richard Fltzpatrick of Grapevine, a daughter Miss Kimberly Ann Fltzpatrick also of Grapevine
