BIOGRAPHY
 
Lawrence E. "Bubby" Dempsey

Lawrence E. Dempsey was born on June 3, 1925 at United Hospital to Edward and Ellen Veronica Dempsey. He was one of five children, three sisters Mary Jacqueline, Regina and Irene as well as a brother Edward (Ed) Thomas Dempsey.

In Rye his family lived at 20 Manursing Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. He attended Resurrection Grammar School and Rye High School.

After high school, Bubby enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater including landing in the Philippines.

After the war, he worked at Continental Baking in Rye. He loved boating and his dogs, including Chief, Snoopy and Bourbon. Bubby was a volunteer in the Rye Fire Department for several decades. He was a great neighbor and friend to the community who faithfully raised the American flag every day on his front yard flagpole.

Lawrence E. Dempsey, affectionately known to family and friends as Bubby, passed away in his sleep on April 20, 2014 after a battle with various health issues.

At the time of his death he was survived by his brother Edward of Rye and sisters Regina of Rye and Irene of Lake Ronkonkoma, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his sister Mary Jacqueline.
