Leander Ferris
Leander Ferris was born on December 13, 1926, in Port Chester, New York, to Violet Parliment, age 28, and Leander Maximilian Ferris, age 27. He had two brothers and one sister. In Rye his family lived at 35 Oakland Gardens and were members of Christ's Church.
Leander enlisted on December 28, 1943, when he was 17 years old and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. See Discharge Records for Leander Ferris for honors and awards.
He returned to Rye after his honorable discharge August 5, 1946 and married Elizabeth "Betty" Rose
Leander was a heavy machinery operator and mechanic for the NNW Concrete Co of Tarrytown for 33 years until his retirement in 1983
He was a volunteer with the Milton Engine & Hose Fire Co in Rye for many years and its captain for two years during the 1950s He was a parishioner of Resurrection Church in Rye and belonged to Elks Lodge 1457 of Mamaroneck
He enjoyed boating on Long Island Sound with his wife Betty, his family, friends and his dogs.
Leander Ferris Jr a lifelong Rye resident and a retired heavy machinery operator died Saturday September 22, 1984 at United Hospital. He was 57 and lived at Rye Colony Apartments
At the time of his death in addition to his father he was survived by his wife the former Elizabeth Rose of the home address one brother Charles of Rye and one sister Muriel Carpenter of Yorktown.
