BIOGRAPHY
John Robert Sloat
John Robert Sloat was born July 19 1927 to Joseph and Alice Cullen Stoat in Rye where he was raised and educated. He had two brothers
Joseph
and
Frank
and a sister Alyce. In Rye his family lived on Rosemere Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. John was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1945. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
John served in the Navy for 13 years until 1958 and would rise to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Prior to 1958, chief petty officer was the highest enlisted grade in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard.
He was a volunteer at St Agnes Hospital in White Plains for more than 17 year. John was a member of St John the Evangelist Church in White Plains.
John R Sloat a former Navy chief petty officer died Tuesday Much 11 1997 at his White Plains home. He was 69.
At the time of his death, he was survived by two brother Joseph Sloat of Arizona and Frank Sloat of Keene NH and a sister Alyce “Lolly" Hickcox of Southbury Conn . A funeral Maas was held at St John the Evangelist Church in White Plains with burial in St Mary’s Cemetery in Port Chester.
