BIOGRAPHY
Romeyn B. Scribner
Romeyn Brown Scribner was born on January 25, 1894, in Chicago, Illinois, to Josephine Morris Brown, age 28, and Gilbert Hilton Scribner, age 33.
He had three brothers Gilbert, Archibald and
David
. In Rye his family lived at
25 Milton Rd
and were members of Christ Church.
Romeyn was a descendant of Gen. William Hammond, aide-de-camp to George Washington. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
He served with the Navy and fought in both world wars and was discharged with the rank of commander after World War II.
A former club golf champion at the Apawamis Club, Mr. Scribner was active in U. S. Seniors Golf.
He originated the 200 Senior Gentlemen Golf Association the Score-and Ten Golf Association and was a member of the United States Seniors and The Western Seniors
Romeyn Scribner, 80, a resident of Rye for 52 years prior to moving to Stuart, Fla., died in a nursing home there Sunday March 31, 1974
He was survived by two brothers, Dr. Archy Scribner of Chappaqua and David Scribner of Armonk. His wife, Emily Lawler Scribner died in 1968.
