Richard Sigmund Reade Jr.
Richard Sigmund Reade Jr. was born on September 4, 1924, in New York, New York, to Genevieve Roberds, age 28, and Richard Stanley Reade (Rosenberger), age 32. Along with his cousin Robert, in Rye his family lived at 66 Milton Road in Blind Brook Lodge.
Richard was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942. He spent a year in chemical engineering at Cornell before entering service.
He enlisted in 1943 and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Richard was a naval pilot, he completed his C, A. A,
training at Amherst College. He completed his naval aviation program at
Bunker Hill, Ind., and was sent
to Pensacola, Fla., for the final stage
of his training.
Ensign Reade on Pacific Ensign Richard S. Reade, Jr., U. S.
N. R., is serving on board the U. S. Carrier "Tarawa," now cruising: in the
Pacific Ocean. The young Navy flier
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reade of
Highland Park Place.
He was honorably discharged May 29, 1947 and returned to school, graduating from Cornell University. Richard was then employed as a mechanical engineer with the Helicopter Division of Bell Aircraft Corporation, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Richard married Miss. Thomasine Estelle Hocart on May 23, 1953 in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Essex Fells, NJ. The Rev. Harold R. Onderdonk, the rector, performed the ceremony. The couple would live In Texas where Richard was employed.
Richard Sigmund Reade Jr. died on June 8, 2003, in East Setauket, New York, at the age of 78.
