Frank E Bixby Jr
Frank E Bixby Jr, born on 4/25/1920, and lived on 33 Oakwood Ave in the small town of Rye, New York. Living in the home his father owned cost up to $8,500 ($161,500 in current day payment), living with his father, Frank E. Bixby, his mother, Mildred B. Bixby, and his little sister, Jeanne E. Bixby. His Father was Born in Pennsylvania while his Mother was also born in New York just like her daughter and son.
Frank Bixby during his years in Rye High School was a very intelligent student and also very athletic. Achieving National Honors Society, to being the Captain of the Rye Track and Field Program for four years, he was also the treasurer for the Rye High School Band and President home room representative.
After graduating High School in the class of 1938, Frank when on to his undergraduate studies and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1942. He then went on to attend Cornell Medical School, where upon graduation he received the highest grade in the nation on the National Board Exams in Anatomy and the Samuels Prize in Ophthalmology. Dr. Bixby trained in surgery at Bellevue Hospital, New York Hospital and Children's Hospital in Boston. He also served as a physician in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
According to the old Rye Chronicle " Frank E. Bixby, Jr. . son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank E. Bixby of 33 Oakwood Avenue was graduated last Tues. from Cornell Medical School and commissioned a first lieutenant In the Navy. A1938 graduate of Rye High School, Lieut. Bixby received his B. A. degree at Dartmouth College in the Class 42. He will now begin nine month training as an intern at Bellevue Hospital, New York. He began his formal practice of surgery at Beverly Hospital in 1951 and practiced there until his retirement in 1987. He established Beverly Surgical Associates. Dr. Bixby was a member of the board of trustees at Beverly Hospital from 1987 to 1993. He was a past president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, a fellow and governor of the American College of Surgeons, and a former president of the Massachusetts chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
At the time of his death Dr. Bixby was survived by his wife, Bertha (Benson); four daughters, Judith of Newburyport, Barbara of Long Island, Nancy Linsley of Topsfield and Pamela Coolidge of Ipswich; and four grandchildren. Born in Port Chester, N.Y., he was a resident of Wenham, MA for 37 years, he was 74.
