Hamilton Hitt
Hamilton Hitt was born on July 21, 1909, in Mamaroneck, New York, to Margaret Wells Hamilton, age 28, and Rodney Hitt, age 27. He had a brother Peter an two sisters Marjorie and Mary. In Rye his family lived at 84 Highland Road and were members of Christ's Church.
Hamilton attended Phillips Exeter Academy and the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University, Class of 30, where he was a member of St. Elmo and Aurelian Clubs.
Hamilton served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Miss Nora Silliphant Weds Lieut. Hamilton Hitt, USNR On January 23, 1943, Lieut. Hamilton Hitt, USNR married Miss Nora Silliphant, of New York City, The ceremony took place in the chapel of Christ Church Methodist, New York City. The Rev. Ralph W. Sockman officiated.
After a wedding trip they made their home at 333 E. 43rd Street. He was stationed in Brooklyn.
Hamilton lived at 40 Park
Avenue in New York and was a stockbroker with Laidlaw Coggeshal. He was a member of the Yale
Club of New York and Squadron
A, and was a former member of
the Apawamis Club, Manursing
Island and the Shenorock Shore
Club in Rye.
Hamilton Hitt, 64, a former Rye resident died March 22, 1974 at St. Lukes Hospital in New York.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Nora;
a daughter, Mrs. Seth Larrabee and
2 grandsons, of St. Thomas, Virgin
Islands; a brother, Peter Hitt, Largo, Fla.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Benjamin
Bryon, Riverside, Conn, and Mrs.
Marjorie White, Lakeville, Conn.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Incarnation in New York City
