William F. McGuire was bom June 5 1923 to John and Margaret Fitzgerald McGuire. In Rye his family lived at 51 Palisade Road wuth his parents and brother Edward. The home that the McGuire family lived cost $8,500 ($161,500 in current day). William's father originally came from Scotland, while his mother was born in the Irish Free State, while bothWilliam and his brother were both born in New York.The family were members of the Church of the Resurrection. William was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1941. He enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
McGuire Made Corporal
William F. McGuire has graduated from the Aviation Radio School, Jacksonville, Fla. , and promoted to corporal in the U. S. Marines. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John McGuire, 265 Grace Church Street. Now a qualified aviation radio man. Corp. McGuire will  probably be assigned to a Marine aviation detachment. He enlisted in the Marines on December 21, 1942, and was sent to Parris Island, S. C, after which he was transferred to the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Jacksonville.

William was a radioman and gunner aboard a B-25 Mitchell in Bomber Squadron 611: The "Black Seahorse" squadron flew many missions in the Pacific during World War II and he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal

with military operations against the
enemy in the Philippine Islands Area
in May 1945 for the completion of
twenty missions which were flown in
an active combat area where enemy
anti-aircraft fire or enemy airborne opposition was expected, and on one or
more of these missions such enemy
oposition was encountered."
He joined New York Telephone Co., NYNEXs predecessor shortly after he was discharged. He married Sarah Broun Lane on Feb. 22 1957 in New York City and moved to Larchmont. William was active as a Cub Scout leader and was a parishioner of St Augustine's Church in Larchmont.He retired as a technician for NYNEX in 1987
William F “Woody” McGuire died Saturday, March 9,1996 at his home. He was 72
At the time of his death, in addition to his wife, survivors indude four sons Christopher of New York City, Andrew of Mohawk NY and William Jr and Edward both of Larchmont, one daughter Margaret McGuire Strassburg of New Rochelle and one grandson.
