GEORGE W. HERRON
George W. Herron was born on January 14, 1893, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Jessie Shanks Davis, age 21, and William Henry Kerr Herron, age 24. In Rye his family lived on 45 Redfield Street and were members of the Presbyterian Church.
He was a graduate of Case Institute, Cleveland and was an industrial consultant. He was chairman of the board of Monorailway Corp.
George married Lynda Elinor Krueger in Cuyahoga, Ohio, on September 3, 1915, when he was 22 years old. The couple would have three children during their marriage. Prior to World War I he was in the Pennsylvania National Guard, and a second lieutenant in World War I.
In World War II he was a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and a commander of Port Security Force of the Port of New York. In World War II he served in Europe and the Caribbean, ashore and afloat.
He was a member of the Rye Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Canadian Club of NY. He was formerly Scout Commissioner in Rye, and Commodore of the Siwanoy Sea Scouts. Mr. Herron's former wife was the late Lynda Kruger of Cleveland
George died suddenly on Tuesday morning April 23, 1957 at United Hospital. He formerly lived at Highland Hall and was a resident of Rye for thirty-five years.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Adele Knapp Herron, two daughters, Mrs. Merlin Neumeyer of Bay City. Mich., Mrs. Albert Hadley of Hudson. Ohio, and one son, Douglas G. of Rye, three sisters, Mrs. Minerva Hird of Parma, Ohio, Mrs. Blanche Hauser of Hartford. Conn., and Mrs Louise Recht of Royal Oak MI, and two grandchildren; and one brother Howard of Cleveland.
