John Walters was born on November 10, 1912, in Rye, New York, his father, Axel, was 36 and his mother, Gerda, was 29. He married Irene Gertrude Dumas in 1949. They had two children during their marriage. He died on May 29, 2006, in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 93. In Rye his family lived at 29 Redfield St. John enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John Walters, 93, Sarasota, died May 29, 2006.

He was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Rye, N.Y., and came to Sarasota in 1975 from Branford, Conn. He retired as a home improvement and remodeling subcontractor and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 1939 in Branford and Moose Lodge 608 in Sarasota. Survivors include his wife, Irene G.; daughters Sandra DeFeo of Westport, Conn., and Linda Whittet of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren.,

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1230 Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, FL 34239.
