Winchester Sherman was born on January 5, 1920, in Rye, New York, his father, Herbert, was 29 and his mother, Katherine, was 25. He married Laura C Coston in 1944 in Washington, Maryland. He died on January 8, 1975, in Hagerstown, Maryland, at the age of 55, and was buried there. In Rye his family lived at 734 Boston Post Road. Winchester served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Winchester Sherman, 55, of 113 Windsor Circle, died at Washington County Hospital on Wednesday.

Born in Rye, N.Y., he was a son of Herbert A. and Katharine Winchester Sherman Sr. He was a graduate of Phillips Academy in 1938, and Yale University in 1942. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II.

He was a member of Assembly Club, F o u n t a i n Head Country Club; and Society of Cincinnati. He was in charge of industrial sales at R.D. McKee. and was a member of St. J o h n ' s Episcopal Church, where he served as senior warden, and a vestryman, lay reader and chalicer.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura C. Coston Sherman; a son, Winchester Sherman Jr. of Traben Trabach, Germany; and a brother, Herbert A. Sherman Jr. of Newtown, Conn.
