John J. Sarsorito


John J. Sarsorito was born February 26, 1919 in Rye, NY to Anthony and Angelina Grimoliza Sarsorito. He had two brothers Nicholas and Daniel and a sister Mary. John was raised and educated in Rye and graduated from Rye High School. In Rye his family lived at 27 High St. and were member of the Church of the Resurrection.


John enlisted September 12, 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In the European Theater he was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge and was a P. O. W. He was liberated in April 1945 and received his honorable discharge on October 30, 1945.

After the war, he married Rita A. Gray on April 28, 1946 in Port Chester, they had three children together. John was an employee of Lifesaver, Inc. in Port Chester for over 30 years as a candy maker, retiring in 1981.

John J. Sarsorito, a resident of New Paltz, NY, and formerly of Port Chester and Rye, NY, died January 25, 2006. He was 86. Mrs. Sarsorito died August 23, 1994.


At the time of his death, he was survived by his son Robert Sarsorito of New Paltz, NY, brothers: Daniel Sarsorito of New Port Richey, FL, and Nicholas Sarsorito of Bronx, NY, sister Mary Casino of Rye, NY, grandchildren: Denise, Damian, Adam, Kyle, and Brandon Sarsorito. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son John J. Sarsorito, Jr.

Funeral Service was Monday, January 30, 2006. Graveside at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye,
