BIOGRAPHY

Anthony M. Romano

Anthony "Tony" M. Romano was born in New York September 16, 1923 to Michael and Raffaela Schiro Romano. He had five sisters and one brother Rocco and in Rye his family lived at 60 Purchase St..

Tony was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942. In school he was a great all around athlete, especially in baseball.

He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A man of honor, Tony was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and fought in four battles, including Normandy. He was awarded four Bronze Stars. He was very proud of his military service.

His career as a police officer began in Port Chester, NY where he served for 25 years. When he retired he continued his profession working for the Hernando County Sherriff Department in FL.

He ended up where he loved it the most, Cape May Point and was admired for keeping the community safe and was loved by all. He was a longtime member of the Cape May Point Vol. Fire Co. #1 and made many friends throughout that community. He was especially fond of the spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts that the firehouse held. (He loved pancakes and sausage!)

He will be remembered by the ease of his laughter and his smile which was contagious to others, and especially the antics he played with his children and his many athletic abilities including bowling, and especially golf and baseball. He was not a man of few words when telling others he played for the Yankees Minor League then was drafted into the Army.

The love he held in his heart for his family including all his grandchildren was the most endearing trait of all, he was so proud of everyone, there was not a moment he did not share that admiration to others, it was the most rewarding for him.

Anthony "Tony" M. Romano, 90, of Cape May Point and formerly of West Chester County, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2014.

He enjoyed a marriage of 57 years prior to the passing of his wife, Barbara in 2008. Tony was also predeceased by his son, Michael Romano; six sisters and one brother.

Tony will be dearly missed by his loving family which includes his three children, Christie (and Les) Stephens, Michele Elliott and Pete (and Sue) Romano; one sister, Bea Hincher; grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors were held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2014 in the Cold Spring Cemetery, Lower Township, NJ.
