Stanley Bernstein was born in New York on January 9th, 1923. In Rye his family lived at 6 Evergreen Avenue. Stanley’s residence consisted of his father Louis, his mother Roslyn, and his younger sister Theodora. Stanley’s father had a high school education, and worked as a proprietor. Stanley’s mother had a high school education, and was a homemaker.
Stanley was a proud member of the Rye High School class of 1940. In high school Stanley was known to be self reliant, and took part in the school band, orchestra, and dance band. In addition Stanley was a member of the radio club, and drivers club.
After high school Stanley began college at Rensselaer Polytechnic where he
majored in electrical engineering. While attending college Stanley was elected president of the Radio Club. On 12 Jan 1944 Stanley enlisted in the US Army at Fort Dix, NJ.
In October 1944, the announcement was made of the
marriage of Miss Meta Goldberg,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Goldberg of the Bronx, to Pvt. Stanley
Bernstein, Signal Corps, U. S. Army. After a short wedding trip,
the groom returned to his post at Fort Monmouth, N. J.
Throughout the remaider of the war he would continue to serve with the
U. S. Army Signal Corps. The Eastern Signal Corps Training Center at Fort Monmouth consisted of an officers' school, an officer candidate school, an enlisted school and a basic training center at subpost Camp Wood. The officer candidate school operated from 1941 to 1946 and graduated 21,033 Signal Corps second lieutenants. On 27 Apr 1946 Stanley received an honorable discharge.
Stanley Bernstein passed away June 26, 2007, at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Meta Bernstein (nee Goldberg). Cherished father of Theodore, Paul (Susan) and Barry (Colleen) Bernstein. Loving grandfather of Avi (Andrea), Rebecca (Michael Carter), Sari, Aaron, Rachel and Samuel Bernstein and great-grandfather of Jacob Bernstein. Dear brother of Theodora (Murray) Gershuny. Also survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.
