BIOGRAPHY
Albert C. Allen
Albert Charles Allen was born on September 28, 1921, in New York City, New York. His father, Albert, was 39 and his mother, Claribel, was 31. He had one brother.He married Helen J. Bloomberg on August 29, 1942, in Florida. They had two children during their marriage. In Rye his family lived at 57 Osborn Rd. and were members of the Presbyterian Church.
Albert served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lieut Allen was a platoon leader who was cited for meritorious service and attached to the
38th Cavalry Reconnaissances Squadron
(mechanized) He was awarded the Bronze Star the Distinguished Unit Badge and had had three bronze battle stars added to his service ribbon for participation in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France and Germany.
Lieut Alien’ as a platoon leader received the
Distinguished Unit Badge
when the entire unit was cited for repelling the German counter-offensive at Monschau after havlng fought from the hedgerow of France to the heart of Germany The citation of his unit said in part:
"
During the major counteroffensive staged by the German 6th Panzer Army the squadron and attached units displayed ex-traordinmry heroism and outstanding combat proficiency in repelling for three succesive days attempts to open the Monschau sector. Despite the fact that the numerically superior enemy made several penetrations one in which was in battalion strength isolated outposts and platoons held their lines with grim determination. Although artillery observation posts were overrun the personnel fought with small arms to maintain their positions and adjusted devastating fire upon waves of German infantry. All enemy infiltrations were thwarted by determined fighting and close hand-to-hand combat

Albert C. ''Alby'' Allen Jr., 80, of Franklin, N.C., and formerly of Battle Creek, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001
He was employed as a stockbroker at Fahnestock & Co. before moving to Florida and then North Carolina. .
