James W. Logan

James W Logan was born on February 26, 1906, in New York to Josephine Loretta Logan and Gertrude Werner Logan. he had two brothers John and Harry and two sisters Josephine and Gertrude.

In Rye his family lived at 99 Theodore Fremd Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

He married Juliette M. Carlson on August 16, 1933. Before the war he was employed by R. B. & W. Nut and Bolt Factory in Port Chester.


James enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 14, 1942, in New York City, New York, during World War II. He was 36 years old.

He was a radio operator, spending many hour of each day listening for radio distress calls from 8th Air Force pilots returning from combat over Germany.

As a radio operator for Brigadter General Jesse Auton’s 65th Fighter Wlng he was instrumental in guiding home battle damaged planes and rescuing personnel who had bailed out over the cold water of the English Channel.

After the war James worked for Rye’s Department of Public Works for 17 years.

He was a 59-year member of Milton Point Engine and Hose Co.

James W Logan a 70 year Rye resident died Tuesday November 6, 1979 at United Hospital. He was 73.

He was survived by his wife Margaret Carlson Logan two brothers John of Port Chester and Harry of Pompano Bench Fla and by several nieces and nephews predeceased by two sisters.
