 John Alexander Gwynne
John Alexander Gwynne was born on February 24, 1906, in Rye, New York, to Edith M Gwynne, age 35, and Arthur C Gwynne, age 35. He was the grandson of
the late John A. Gwynne, who had
much to do with the founding of the
Rye Town Park.
He had one brother Arthur and two sisters Edith and Isabelle. In Rye his family lived at 30 Evergreen Ave and were members of Christ's Church.
 John attended Rye Country Day School and was an alumnus of Taft School, Watertown, Conn, and Princeton University where he was a member of the Colonial Club.
 John enlisted in June, 1941, when he left his
home in Indianapolis, Minn., where he
was associated with Stokely Bros.,
Inc., to join the colors. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II.
On August 2, 1947 John married Barbara Clarke Simonds daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Baldwin Simonds of Providence and Little Compton RI. The ceremony was performed by the Rev James D Dingwell in United Congregational Church.
John was a very successful investment banker both before and after the war. He was very active in the Providence Preservation Society and helped restore several historic houses.
 John Alexander Gwynne , a retired investment banker and former Rye resident, died on September 25, 1977, in Providence, Rhode Island, when he was 71 years old.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Barbara Simmonds Gwynne, a son John A. Gwynne, and a daughter, Adeline G. Gwynne; two sisters, Mrs. Bayard W. Read of Rye, and Mrs. Lewis D. Mowry of Charleston, R.I.; and a brother, Arthur C Gwynne of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT.
A memorial service was held at the First Unitarian Church in Providence.
