William J. Demorest was born in New York in 1922. In Rye his family lived on Upper Dogwood Lane. William enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

William J. Demorest Jr. Engineer, tennis teacher, 78 William J. Demorest Jr., 78, of t Berwyn, an engineer who worked fpj more than 35 years for Honey-f well and who taught tennis to inner- city youth, died of cancer Sunday at I'Bryn Mawr Hospital. ''! J.'iy'Mr. Demorest taught mostly pre-teens and teenagers from the inner iyftty and helped many of them get Unto college. jjor 13 years before his death, he was a volunteer for the Eighteenth Street Development Corp., a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates homes and other facilities in Philadelphia. Born in New York City, he graduated from Williams College in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in physics and from Carnegie Tech in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. During World War II, he served with the Army in the Philippines. Besides tennis, he enjoyed golf. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Constance Gould Demorest; a son, Stephen B.; two daughters, Lawrie E. and Amy P.; three sisters; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 226 Right-ers Mill Rd., Gladwyne. Burial will be private.
