ROTH, Robert Robert (Bob) Roth, a resident of Park Springs, Stone Mountain, GA died Sunday June 7, 2015.
He was born September 30, 1927 in Mamaroneck, New York to Mildred M. and Herbert G. Roth. His mother was a homemaker and his father a cartoonist and illustrator of books and newspapers. He grew up in Mamaroneck and during his early years spent a number of winters in Delray Beach, Florida where his father's work moved the family.
He graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S.S. Crescent City (APA 21) at Okinawa and then the Atlantic.
Following discharge from active duty he attended Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree in 1950. He married L. Jean Kronfeld, of Eastchester, New York on October 6, 1950. Jean died November 19, 2010. Jean and Robert had known each other since they were twelve years old.
He is survived by his son, Robert Alan Roth and his daughter Laurel Jean Roth and by two granddaughters Jennifer Lauren Roth and Crestina Nichole Roth. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, a niece and nephews, residents of Tennessee, Alabama, and Wyoming.
Robert and Jean lived in Eastchester and Robert worked for consulting engineering firms. He earned a Master of Civil Engineering Degree from New York University in 1957 and was a licensed engineer in New York, Georgia, Florida, and Maine. The family moved to Coral Gables, Florida in 1961 where he worked for Dade County, Florida and taught engineering at Miami-Dade Junior College. In 1967 the family moved to Athens, Georgia where he took a position as Training Engineer at the Southeast Water Laboratory, developing courses in a number of subjects for Federal, State, and local officials. He was transferred to the Atlanta office of EPA in 1972 and retired after 25 years Federal service in 1989. He opened a consulting engineering business at that time and retired fully in 1995.
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 15, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Tucker with Pastor Marty Springer officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
