Michael J. Izzo, a lifelong Rye resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Sarah Newman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck, New York at the age of 77. He was born April 15, 1928 to the late Michael and Jennie Rich Izzo in Bridgeport, CT.
He moved to Rye at an early age and was graduated from the Rye Grammar School, and Rye High School, class of 1946. He served proudly as a Sergeant, First Class in the 40th Infantry Division, 223rd Regiment in Korea from 1950 to 1952, where he was wounded in action.
Michael, a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, began his career in the banking field in 1950 with the Rye Trust Company, and retired as Manager of the Rye Branch of Barclays Bank of New York in 1995. He was an avid golfer and an original member of the Rye Golf Club, where he played regularly and carded three "holes-in-one".
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosina (Minniti), his daughter Cynthia Gazouleas of Texas, and by his two sons; Michael and Richard of Rye. He was the proud grandfather of Stephen and Michael Gazouleas, and Madeleine, Sophia and Nicolas Izzo. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the William H. Graham Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place of Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 11 o'clock at the Church of the Ressurection Burial will follow at the Greenwood Union Cemetery on North Street, in Rye.
