John K. Greer was born on July 7th, 1929, in Greenwich CT, but lived in Rye by the time he was 1 year old. By the time he was 10, he was living at 105 Dogwood Lane while he attended elementary school. His father was from Massachusetts, and worked as a lawyer, while his mother came from England and was a homemaker. He had a sister named Sheila, who was two years younger than him, and a maid named Anna William lived with his family. In 1939, he attended summer camp with four Rye friends at camp Mohican, on Lake George. In 1951, he successfully completed Leadership School with the 26th Field Artillery Battalion, a unit of the 9th Division Artillery. In 1952, Greer was commissioned second Lieutenant in Fort Sill Oklahoma, where his gold bars were pinned on him by his fiance Lew Taylor.

John K. Greer died December 5, 2000. He was the son of the late Henry Kirk and Louise Roberts. He grew up in Rye attending Milton School and Rye Country Day.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army. Mr. Greer was a U.S. Olympian in two sports, Field Hockey and Fron Tennis. He participated in six Olympic games, and four Pan American.
He was a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee for 15 years. Mr. Greer joined IBM in 1954 where he spent his entire business career until retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife Ethel Lewis Taylor Greer, his children W. Kirk Greer of Fairfield, CT, John T. Greer of Hillsborough, CA, Robyn G. Hallock of Cos Cob a sister Sheila Duker of East Dennis, MA., and severn Grandchildren.
